It’s just a little over week until the X Prize Cup, er, Wirefly X Prize Cup takes place in New Mexico. Some updates:
- Earlier this week the X Prize Foundation announced that Wirefly.com, an online mobile phone retailer, will be the title sponsor of the event. Although the press release came out Tuesday, logos incorporating Wirefly’s name had been on the Cup’s web site since last week.
- On Wednesday Northrop Grumman announced that it has signed on to be the sponsor of the Lunar Lander Challenge, which will take place at the Cup. Whether any vehicles will actually be ready (technically and legally) to compete in the event this year remains to be seen.
- As for what might take place, check this report from Robin’s Lunar Lander Challenge blog. If nothing else, we’ll have Tim Pickens and his rocket truck…
- Also, Buzz will be there, speaking at the International Symposium on Personal Spaceflight as well as appearing at the Cup.
- The Cup won’t have competition from a UP Aerospace rocket launch from Spaceport America that had been scheduled for October 21. The company has delayed that launch while it continues to investigate last month’s failure.
